WelcomeThe Rose City Garden Railway Society (RCGRS) is proud to welcome you to Portland, Oregon, and to sponsor the 35th annual National Garden Railway Convention to be held from September 4th through 8th, 2019. For 2019 NGRC registration, click here. The convention will be held in the DoubleTree Hotel in Portland, OR. This hotel has many excellent rooms available for convention guests and all the amenities. It is next door to the Portland public rail and bus transit system (TriMet) for easy access to the airport or virtually anywhere in the Portland metropolitan area. It is also next door to the Lloyd Center shopping mall (noted for being the largest indoor shopping mall in the world when it opened in 1960). Registration for hotel rooms will be available starting Sep 8th, 2018. To review the hotel or register for a room, click here. There will be many layouts available during the convention for you to visit and talk with the owners about. These layouts are built and maintained by the various owners, many of whom are members of the Rose City Garden Railway Society. These layouts feature many different facets of layout design and decoration, including water features, vegetation of all sorts, buildings of many styles many of which are scratch built, and layouts from the very simple to very complex. And some are indoors while others are outdoors. Many are designed to facilitate operational sessions where train enthusiasts actually run the trains as though they were actually picking up loads and delivering them to various locations, using waybills and coordinating with a dispatcher. For a list of the layouts and their days of operation, click here. There will also be pre-convention tours in the southern Oregon area and post-convention tours in the Washington area. Many vendors of fine trains, train equipment, scenery, and buildings will be available as well. The vendors will be located in the DoubleTree Convention Center next door to the DoubleTree Hotel itself. For information on vendors, or for vendor registration and information on setting up a vendor booth, click here. You need not sign up right now, but may wish to be kept informed about new additions and changes to the convention activities.
