“Growing Trains in the Garden”

Welcome!

The Rose City Garden Railway Society of Portland, Oregon promotes and practices the hobby of Garden Railroading. Whether you are a long-time hobbyist or a recent enthusiast, we welcome you to join us in planning gardens, building stock and scenery, running trains, sharing lore and expertise.

We have members with experience ranging from years spent building and operating garden railroads, to those planning their first garden and running their first trains.

You do not need to have a garden railroad or even own any garden railroad equipment to participate in our club. Joining the club is your opportunity to see and run on other club member railroads to see if you like the hobby, with no commitment other than to join and attend some club activities.

2019 National Garden Railway Convention 2019 NGRC Logo

Be sure to put this on your calendar! The RCGRS is hosting the 2019 National Garden Railway Convention from 27 August through 31 August, 2019. The convention will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, near the Lloyd's Center. There will be more than 30 garden railway layout tours, an ice cream social, a BBQ at Oaks Park that includes a ride on a train pulled by the SP #4449, and a banquet dinner, and operation sessions where you can run the trains yourself. There will be several clinics to tell you about many of the railway hobby related activities and products such as gardening tips, model building methods (one clinic will be to actually build a small item for your railroad layout), how to create lifelike people with modeling clays and other items, converting track power locomotives to battery power, and much much more. There will be vendors from all over the country with fantastic deals on garden railway items and associated hobby items such as locomotives and other rolling stock, remote control items, track power equipment, model buildings, model cars, model people, and a whole lot more. There will be a model building contest where you can enter your own creations. It's going to be a lot of fun. For additional details, please click here to visit the 2019 NGRC web site.
